It is important that people have comprehensive eye exams at least once a year in order to make sure that their eyes are remaining healthy. Even if you have had a vision screening recently, it is important that you come in to our Eye and Vision Care Associates for a complete eye exam in Plainview.

When you visit our vision practice for an eye exam, you will be seen by one of our expert optometrists, just one of whom is Dr. Sebastian Polizzi. At our eye care practice, you will receive a complete eye exam in Plainview, and not just a vision screening. When a person has a vision screening, it usually means that one aspect of their vision is being examined. For example, if you are getting a new driver’s license, you will have a vision screening at the Department of Motor Vehicles to make sure that you can see clearly at a certain distance so that you can see cars and street signs. Similarly, your child may have a vision screening at school to make sure that they can see the front of the room where the teacher and the blackboard are. However, neither of these vision screenings will take the place of a complete eye exam. During an eye exam, your eyes will be screened for many different eye diseases and disorders including: glaucoma; cataracts; macular degeneration; diabetic retinopathy; retinal tears; dry eyes; and other problems of the cornea, macula, and retina. Our eye doctor will also make sure that your child’s visual system is developing correctly, and that there are no problems that need early treatment. Your visual acuity will also be tested to make sure you are not having any problems with nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. These problems can easily be corrected with prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses.

Have you noticed that your vision has become blurred, and you have trouble seeing clearly at night when you drive? If so, you may have cataracts. At Eye and Vision Care Associates, our optometrist in Plainview NY will be able to give you a comprehensive eye exam and determine whether or not you have this common vision problem.

When you come into our vision practice for a comprehensive eye exam, you will be seen by one of our top-notch optometrists, just one of whom is Dr. Sebastian Polizzi. Our optometrist in Plainview NY will be able to easily diagnose whether or not you have cataracts by performing a comprehensive eye exam. When a person has a cataract, it means that they have a clouding of the natural lens of the eye. If left untreated, this condition will most likely lead to blindness. However, the great news is that this condition can now be easily corrected with laser cataract surgery. This surgery is now extremely common, and is performed while the patient remains perfectly comfortable due to the use of local anesthesia. During this outpatient surgery, the natural lens of the eye is removed through a tiny incision in the eye, and a new man-made IOL is inserted to replace the lens. Often times, people have better vision after cataract surgery than they had before the cataracts even developed, due to great advances in IOLs. Our eye doctor will be able to determine whether you need to have cataract surgery at the current time, or whether you can be treated with a new lens prescription. In the early stages of cataracts, clearer vision can often be restored by providing the patient with a new lens prescription which will be effective until the cataracts further develop. It is impossible to determine how quickly cataracts will develop, or how far they will develop. In the meantime, better lighting conditions at home, can also help you see clearer.

Syosset Eye Exam

Eye doctor in Syosset

Is your eyesight as good as it can be? That is a central question that we seek to answer with our Syosset eye exam. In addition to testing your vision, we will also screen you for the most common eye diseases. And while you may not think that it’s important, since you feel fine and have no symptoms, it’s vital to be aware that most eye diseases form and progress without any signs to alert you. By the time you notice that there is something wrong, it is typically because you have already experienced some degree of vision loss or damage to your eyes. And since both of those might be irreversible, it’s easy to see how a yearly exam is a key part of our eye care.

If you’ve never worn eyeglasses or contact lenses before, perhaps this is the time when you could benefit from what they have to offer. You might have noticed that you’re squinting or struggling to see things in the distance. Or perhaps you find words blurry when you’re reading. Those are just two possible indications that you could use prescription lenses. But even if you’re seeing okay, does that mean you wouldn’t want to see even better? Our Syosset eye exam is designed to help you achieve the sharpest and clearest corrected vision possible. On the other hand, if you already do wear glasses or contacts, you might be due for an update to your prescription. Your vision needs are always changing. Glasses or contacts that are insufficient aren’t much more valuable to you than having none at all. Make sure that you bring your current prescription lenses with you, so that you can be tested both with and without them.

Among the eye diseases you will be screened for are glaucoma and cataracts, which can both affect anyone at any age. Tests such as tonometry, used for glaucoma, and a slit lamp exam, for cataracts, are the baselines for diagnosing. Other tests may be done to make a firm determination. Anyone over 40 years old will be screened for macular degeneration. And if you have type one or type two diabetes, you will also be tested for diabetic retinopathy. Our Syosset eye exam is the best way to stay on top of your eye health and your best eyesight. Schedule yours today.
